My Own Still Life

I love the process of sketching and painting a still life. While I am new to painting, I have dabbled with drawing my whole life. What makes this year different is not just the newness of the brush, but trying to make it a spiritual practice.

Jim Finley (my fave) says a a spiritual practice is any act faithfully entered into with your whole heart in which you intentionally open yourself to the infinitely loving presence of God that is already, always, completely present.

How can my daily practice of drawing and painting open me to recognize the presence of God’s love? First, I know I can’t make this an enneagram three achievement-oriented activity; instead I have to engage my whole heart. I am painting every day; but honestly, I’m not always approaching it with this intention. May today be a day of being still enough to sit in God’s love as I paint.
